About this bottle

Singani is a spirit that has been produced since 1530. It has its own DO (denomination of origin) and GI (geographical indication) and can only be produced in the Bolivian Andes. The grapes (of which only muscat of Alexandria can be used) must be planted at a minimum of 5250 feet (1600 meters). As Singani is not recognized as its own spirit category in most of the world, it can only be described as a brandy, but it is better to think of it as an eau-de-vie. This Singani is the first to be available in the United States and for that you can thank director, Steven Soderbergh and his blood, sweat, and tears (and money).

An interesting concoction, unlike anything I've had before (not that I've tried that many things, though). The flavor graph shown on Distiller is pretty accurate. The aroma is intensely fruity and flowery, with the fruitiness reaching to an "overripe" level reminiscent of a funky rum. It didn't strike me as altogether pleasant at first but it's grown on me. The taste is less distinctive but still quite strong. There is a grape-spirit flavor along with a fairly generic alcohol taste, and a faintly bitter, almost herbal dimension that adds some character. The finish has a bit of pepper. Overall it has slightly more bitterness than I'd prefer, but it's mixed with very appealing fruity and flowery aspects, so the total package is enjoyable. It has a light quality that's refreshing with ice on a hot day. The price is pretty good at $30. I could see myself getting this again.

@Richard-ModernDrinking and I had a tasting last night where we shared a few pours. I bought to the table the unusual harder to find non-Scottish versions. This one was the last pour of the night, and was preceded by some amazing drams..so I probably didn’t do it justice. A really summer time drink. Grapes and more grapes. All grapes...purple sweet grapes. I need to give this another shot...just wasn’t fair after having an amazing Macallan 10, Smogen Triple and Ardbeg Drum CE

AnttiRG 2.5

An intense, 'un-aged Brandy by Casa Real Distillery in Bolivia made exclusively from the distilled juice of Muscat d’Alexandria grapes fermented using natural yeasts. It has a bold & aromatic birth with notes of grape must & hints of floral perfume; while a dry & balanced life adds notes of dried fruits, mountain meadow flowers & white pepper; that leads to a quick & delicate death with hints of oak & cherry. Aged One 4.3

Nose of fruit blossoms and grape skins. Soft, mouth coating. Big floral notes, semisweet, finishing with fresh pressed unripe grapes. Very pleasant. Quality Pisco style. Long finish.

On the nose, sweetness, herbs and floral. Palate is moderate sweetness, pepper, herbs. It takes a bit to actually enjoy but I find it pleasant

Other than pisco, I’ve never really had brandy before. That being said, I might just start to! This is incredibly floral and smooth.
