About this bottle

100% of the production at Springbank is handled on site including floor malting, aging, and bottling. Springbank also makes three different styles of single malt at their Campbeltown distillery with their flagship Springbank line being their lightly peated version. Unusually, it's distilled 2.5 times. In keeping this maverick theme, the brand has also never chill-filtered or added natural color to their whiskies. Springbank 10 is aged a minimum of 10 years in a combination of ex-bourbon (60%) and ex-sherry (40%) casks.

Review #050 Type: single malt scotch Proof: 46% Comments: aged 10 years, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry, 2023 bottling Tasted after: first up Appearance (no score): Russet color. Swirling reveals a thin line sticking to the side of the glass, legs are slow to form. Nose: 17/20 Musty and sweet are the two words that best describe this. Juicy apples, kiwis, and lemon citrus lead, but it also immediately reminds me of my grandfather’s workshop. Hay, old wooden planks, buckets of nails, chain saw bar oil, and the faint electrical smell of a power tool that’s been running for a long time. Palate: 35/40 Very enjoyable and oily texture. Primarily I get grain cereal, but also some charcoal, a mild saltiness, olive oil, and a hint of tropical fruits like pineapple and nectarine. It definitely imparts an overwhelmingly earthy flavor profile, though I can’t really point to why that is. Finish: 33/40 Medium finish. Kicks off with some burnt toast, closer to the back of the throat very interesting, but that departs as quickly as it arrived. Those tropical citrus notes turn sweeter, more akin to honey now, while in the background I get the first gentle whiffs of sweet smoke. It ends on a mildly bitter note, like one would find in dark chocolate, but without any of the chocolate flavor, just the bitterness. It’s not unpleasant, and if anything makes me want another sip to quench my thirst. With Water: A couple drops of water does wonders, it really opens up the palate to some of that sweetness I was picking up in the nose. Apples, brown sugar, and cherries are evident now, and they meld nicely with the other flavors. The sweetness also carries into the finish which now has some white pepper notes added on the back half. Total: 85/100 Final thoughts: There’s so much complexity in this dram, it truly is a great spirit. My only complaint is lack of availability. It’s too bad Springbank isn’t available in my home control state, so I try to snipe the occasional bottles when I see them sub $100 in my work travels. Price: $99 Would recommend: yes Would buy: yes Scoring Legend: 96-100: The perfect dram, absolutely exceptional, nectar of the gods, I will savor this bottle and make it last, 5 stars. 90-95: Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky, 4.75 stars. 85-89: Very good to amazing, almost the complete product, 4.5 stars. 80-84: Quite good, very enjoyable to drink, but doesn’t wow me, 4.25 stars. 75-79: Good, enjoyable but ultimately flawed, unlikely to purchase again, 4 stars. 70-74: A solid dram, but wouldn't go out of my way to get it, 3.75 stars. 55-69: Drinkable, 3.5-2.75 stars. Below 55: Suitable for cooking or direct contribution to the kitchen sink drain, 2.5 stars or less.

I’ve been on this whisky journey for a relatively short period of time, roughly two years. Got into scotch through a close friend of mine. On this journey, i have watched many videos, read articles and reviews and the name Springbank has come up a lot. Quickly i understood the hype and the elusive nature of this spirit and was warned about its inflated price tag. Today, a road trip, led me to a liquor store i found by chance and i happened to find this bottle at a very reasonable price tag, and i pulled the trigger. Nose - A very well rounded nose! You get everything, sweet and savory and smokyness! A big hit of fresh fruits lead the way: apples, banana, pears, pineapple and grapes. This is quickly followed by peat smoke. I had no idea the amount of peatiness i would get from this! As i comprehend the peat, hints of chocolate and salted caramel show up as well. There is a herbal, medicinal quality to the aroma as well. I have to say that it is perhaps, the most complex array of smells I’ve smelled in a whisky. Mellow and complex. Taste - As soon as i sip it i get fruity syrupy flavors immediately followed by a pretty decent peaty smoke hit! It tastes almost like how it smells. Very pleasant and crisp and clean. It is very sweet at first in a good way, like a well balanced fruity pastry but has some charred dough elements to it. There is a small hint of saltyness as well. Well rounded, medicinal and spicy but not overpowering. It is oily in nature and coats the mouth and tongue well. The finish is a good medium! The after taste leaves a fresh spring season type of feeling, herbal and minty and bittersweet. Perhaps, the most well rounded scotch I’ve tasted. I love islay whiskies and am a huge fan of the peatiest of whiskies. The presence of a good amount of peat smoke gives it a big thumbs up from my side. I finally, get the hype and the lore behind this distillery and this expression. However, I don’t think it is worth the inflated price that some places are selling it for. But i do think its worth the price that springbank puts on it.

Campbeltown whisky? You’ve already got my attention. Springbank 10 is one of those bottles everyone recommends—so naturally, expectations are high. This is my first proper Springbank experience (though I’ve dabbled with a few Longrows), and I’m tasting it solo, away from the influence of whisky circles and dram-drunk hype. Neat Nose: The aroma features fresh-cut apples combined with a subtle malty sweetness. It is approachable, almost shy. Palate: Smooth, gentle, with a whisper of Christmas spice—cinnamon leading the charge. It's a warming note, but the flavours feel like they’re keeping their coats on. Good… but reserved. Finish: Warming spice, a little raisin sweetness hanging on in the background. Pleasantly long. With Water That’s where it gets interesting. Nose: Water opens it up noticeably—it's brighter, slightly saltier, like the sea air finally rolled in, and more inviting. Palate: Vanilla steps forward, followed by citrus peel and a dance of spice. There’s smoke too—but it’s a background character, like the friend in the group who rarely talks but always has something good to say. Finish: Still spice-driven, still warm, lingering. Final Thoughts This is an excellent whisky. It’s balanced, easy-drinking, and full of subtle charm. But—and this is a personal preference—it doesn’t take risks. Springbank 10 is the reliable friend everyone likes because he never does anything too bold. There are more adventurous journeys if you’re looking to explore the personality and raw emotion whisky can express. But for someone wanting to start that journey with something solid, classic, and full of quiet complexity—Springbank 10 is a brilliant place to begin.

Nose: Apple, Pear, Campbeltown F U N K, Mint, Menthol, Peat, Brine, Butterscotch, White Pepper. Palate: Ripe Apple, Butterscotch, Brine, Malted Barley Sugar, Herbal Peat, Mild leather, Raisins, Must, Full Oily Body. To me, the Springbank 10 is almost the perfect whisky. I enjoy a whisky with a nice balance of sweet and savory notes, I enjoy a complex whisky, and I also like when a whisky is honest, the Springbank 10 is all of these things. On top of that, all the sweeter notes are my personally preferred notes of sweetness. Light fruits, malt sugar, and butterscotch. On top of all of that there is also a wonderful unique peatiness to it and a nice splash of brine. Sweet, Peaty, and Briney, all wonderful flavors combined for a special whisky experience. The whisky and the distillery are already praised by the people in the community who understand what a good quality whisky is, and if you're reading this, you probably do as well. There are some naysayers out there, but thats okay, they've yet to come to the part of their whisky Journey where they're able to understand what kind of quality is provided to them by Springbank. *cough* inexperienced age statement snobs *cough*. That was a dig at a certain review below mine. This would receive a higher score but due to the drastically rising prices of Scotch in the U.S. and simply the availability I am giving it a slightly lower score.

Finally had the chance to try this one at a bar in Tacoma of all places. This is the typical Campbeltown whisky with a lot of character and complexity. Natural Color, unchilled filtered, the integrity is there! On the nose: Salty caramel, charred oak, vanilla, pear and apple. Depending if you have your cup full and nosing in the cup, it’s very caramelly. If the cup is half empty and you’re smelling from afar, it’s more fruity. But i also sense that savory of tobacco, leather. Fantastic! On the palate: Salty caramel with a pepper punch, a bit of orchard fruit and a cinnamon finish. Long finish with the sweetness of caramel and the spice of cinnamon. I can drink this all day! Such a great dram with that butterscotch, caramel taste as well as spiciness of cinnamon. Delicious! Whenever I find it, I’ll get it!

Absolutely beautiful! Probably the most complex 10 year old whisky to ever exist! It is an experience! The nose plays perfectly into the palate and grows into a legendary finish! It has the beautifully sweet nose full of fresh fruits with a lovely cambeltown funk that brings it together. The palate is loaded with everything! Balancing pineapple, raspberries, lemon, light peat, and light coffee bitterness. It has a finish for the ages, as the peat wraps everything together like wrapping paper on the best Christmas gift ever, and gives it you slowly! The finish is slowwwww, and wonderful! A truly masterful whisky!
