Man: Stagg is some pretty potent stuff. I kicked off my journey with Stagg with Batch 18 which was a heavy hitter and Batch 19 ( AKA 22B ) isn't much lighter. That said, if you can peek through the ethanol heat of this bourbon, there are some more complex and delicious qualities about it. The nose certainly doesn't smell of the proof. Black cherries with figs and caramel tantalize your senses as you go in for a taste. The taste is burning, tongue prickling proof. I wish I had chance to decanter this bourbon as I believe some time mingled with air would do it some good. But off of a freshly opened bottle, the taste is overwhelmingly ethanol with pepper. Vanilla does take back stage to all the heat, but is present enough to actually be noticeable. Really hard to taste anything past the heat. The finish is long lasting because it has to be, in order to let the heat from the taste die off. A little bit of vanilla still remains, mixed with some sour cherries. But really, dissipating heat takes center stage here. This one is tough for me. Everyone seems to swear by all things Stagg but I just think its a bit too hot to really be enjoyable. That said, I'm sure some pips of water or a little time in a decanter would really benefit this bourbon but really: who has the time for that?

On the nose I get cherry, cinnamon, and ethanol. On the palate it's stagg, it's hot, it's sweet, and it has a warming finish. This batch seems to lack the complexity of others, I will agree from another reviewer that it reminds me of hotter eagle rare. Cinnamon overtakes the sweetness and potential other flavors and it transitions to a woody note. Not my favorite stagg (jr) batch, but it'll drink.
Nose - Loads of cinnamon and deep, dark barrel char. Theres some sticky notes of caramel. Some stale leather comes through giving that classical bourbon scent. Palate - You got that classical bourbon taste here. Lots of vanilla, cinnamon, oak and leather. Nothing else jumping out, just a really good traditional bourbon. Finish - More of the palate with some herbal notes.
Nose is mostly a deep caramel molasses with a hint of maple. Also some dried fruit- raisin, cherry. A little oak tannin too. Pallete is very juicy and fills the front / mid palette. Molasses and dried fruit seem to be the dominate flavors. Dried fruit hangs on the finish with some dry oak around the edges. Almost makes you want to chew on it.
Nose was wonderful. Like a warm molasses cookie on Christmas. Strong baking spices. Palate did not support the wonderful nose. I did get some fruit notes, and it almost tasted like Eagle Rare with a lot of ethanol. Just couldn’t get on board with it after a handful of tries so i gave it to a friend.
Nose: subtle, ethanol, toffee Taste: super nice deep caramel & pear to start, then the heats punches in. , finishes with mellow oaky sweet sugar cookie Ice : mellows out the heat punch, great smooth flavors that transition well
