Batch 247, Bottle 4782. Love the tall Stranahan bottle, like E.H. Taylor, but with a squared off back... and the metal jigger. Nice new labeling too. Light amber look in the glass, with good legs. Sweet cereal and a dusty floral (chocolate?) on the nose. Malted grain to Malt Balls. Rich, light port oak flavors, banana, and an even (but not hot) ethanol follows. Pleasant lightly oily mouthfeel. Finish is short, but honeyed grain and some spice lingers. It's not hot, but a rather subdued delicate finish. You can see where the peat smoke flavors would fit in if this were a scotch, but it's not. I can see the Distiller pro reviewer's description of chocolate milk on the nose, and I'd add well after the finish--a lingering essence I noticed after a minute or so. First impression: Beautiful expression of American single malt. Don't like scotch peat? Try this for the unpeated single malt essence. Will revisit this review as I get to know this bottle better. Next night: Tried with an iceberg. Initially ice accentuated the sweet cereal and ethanol (which surprised me). With a little time and melt the spice and grain sweetness flattened into a creamy finish. Easy to like this service, if not as complex as neat.
About this bottle

In addition to the new packaging, the whiskey features older liquid and is a blend of 4, 5, 6, and 7 year-old American single malt. NEAT NOSE - So much honey on the nose with an unmistakable malt note, so much so that it reminds me of an unpeated scotch. I also get some cinnamon and vanilla. Compared to a scotch however, the nose is more rich, warm, and vibrant. PALATE - Sweet, thick honey. The mouthfeel is thick and oily. I also get some cinnamon and vanilla on the palate with the cinnamon being very faint. FINISH - Long and Lingering BUY? - Absolutely. This is a very unique pour that may turn your attention to American Single Malts. BUY AGAIN?? I’d buy again if I was looking for this flavor profile. Again, it’s very unique. Also, they have Single Barrel Cask Strength bottles of this and I just got one. So maybe look out for those as well. I can’t wait to try mine.
Nose was pleasant, vanilla, cinnamon, and the palate had cherry vanilla cinnamon vibes. Overall solid but nothing standing out. Stanahan’s offerings are unique and worth trying in that they straddle this line between bourob and scotch. Though a single malt, it has so many bourbon like qualities. I could warm up to this distillery with time, just was caught of guard with the unique take on whisky, but unique kn a good way and i look forward to trying some offerings from them in the future. Tour at the distillery was absolutely worth it! And a great location!
Actually bought this on clearance at Walmart at $20 on a whim. I normally stick to bourbon and rye, but this was a WTH pickup. So glad I did. The nose is a very pleasant apple note with faint sweet tea. Something you would expect maybe expect off of a brandy. The taste follows the nose where that apple note follows through with a shortish finish with just a touch of spice. This is definitely a buy another bottle at $50 when this runs out. Easy to sip and one to introduce to fellow bourbon drinkers as a change of pace
Caramel and leather aromas. Very inviting. Dark chocolate and caramel greet the palate. The mid palate is warmed by cinnamon with some butterscotch and vanilla. The finish has some maple syrup and the warmth of alcohol. It is long and pleasing. This will hold a place in my home bar.
This tastes like a carnival to me... Candied apples and cotton candy. When I read the tasting notes here, i absolutely see and get each of those notes, the spice and warm honey.. but without that input, this is like pure candy and I dig it immensely (in small doses).
