Review #039 Type: single malt scotch Proof: 43% Comments: aged 12 years, American oak and European sherry-seasoned oak Tasted after: first up Appearance (no score): Chestnut color. Swirling reveals a thick line sticking to the side of the glass, legs are slow to form. Nose: 15/20 Woody oak, apricots, and brown sugar. Palate: 30/40 Mild and warm (almost hot). Honey sweetness and oak spice lead, as I keep sipping nutty pecans and plumbs also emerge. Finish: 33/40 Medium finish. More heat, lemon citrus, salt, and ending on a sweet caramel note. With Water: A drop of water adds orange zest and tart cherries on the palate, and medicinal iodine to the finish. Total: 78/100 Final thoughts: A number of years ago, my brother purchased a bottle of this for me as a gift. It was the first enjoyable dram of scotch I’d tried up to that point, so this bottle will always have a special place in my memories. These days I’m of the mind that there’s better bottles out there for the price point, so if I buy again it would be primarily for sentimental reasons. Price: $65 Would recommend: maybe Would buy: maybe Scoring Legend: 96-100: The perfect dram, absolutely exceptional, nectar of the gods, I will savor this bottle and make it last, 5 stars. 90-95: Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky, 4.75 stars. 85-89: Very good to amazing, almost the complete product, 4.5 stars. 80-84: Quite good, very enjoyable to drink, but doesn’t wow me, 4.25 stars. 75-79: Good, enjoyable but ultimately flawed, unlikely to purchase again, 4 stars. 70-74: A solid dram, but wouldn't go out of my way to get it, 3.75 stars. 55-69: Drinkable, 3.5-2.75 stars. Below 55: Suitable for cooking or direct contribution to the kitchen sink drain, 2.5 stars or less.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. It is the classic Macallan play to the mass markets, overpriced but still a lovely whiskey, you can do better for your money but it's always nice to pull out a Macallan for your friends as the majority will recognise it as a decent dram. Mind you the whisky Nerds of friends may hold a different opinion. Beautiful nose, with Christmas cake fruits, soft sherry and some cinnamon spice, truly lovely, perhaps a little simple. Then to taste, again absolutely lovely but as with all Macallans of this proof doesn't quit deliver on the nose, yes I get everything I got from the nose fruits, sherry sweetness, a hit of spice, honey, a little tobacco sting, but nothing much from the source spirit. Its feels dialled back to 5 not turned up to 11 ....... sadly. Finish is really nice not long but leaves you wanting to go back for more So for me nothing wrong with this infact I really enjoyed it and would be more than happy to have it again. But would I buy another bottle ....... probably not ...... It needs Proofing Up if they want to knock it out at that price, you are paying for the privilege of the name..... there much better out there for the money.

Macallan 12 Double Oak is the synonym of elegance. Its dark amber color and its balance is remarkable. I agree their price tag is too high for what they deliver. I agree their brand sells by itself so they can mass produce and reduce their ABV to the lowest level. But still their flavor profile is very hard to imitate. If we can forget about the orice tag, here’s why it’s great: On the nose - Raisin, prune, tobacco box On the palate - dried fruits, charred oak, tobacco, toffee, nutty finish It’s a great dram! The flavor profile is really what I love about whisky. Great sherry notes and it really delivers. Is it expensive? Yes, very much so. Still great dram! Cheers!

Nose: sweet fruits, sherry, hint of chocolate, vanilla, toasted oak, touch of orange citrus Palate: sweetness of dried fruits, light roasted nuttiness, citrus and spice on the finish, as suggested. Transitions to a cocoa touch, tobacco, with an oaky ending. Overall, a good dram that will surely impress friends when you pull it out. The name says it all. But to those that have more of a refined palate, they will find that this does not quite hit for the price. Worthy of the bar, no doubt, but you can find others that are just as good for a little less.

An elegant, Single Malt Scotch by The Macallan Distillery in Speyside, Scotland. It is crafted with their classic Single Malt aged a full 12 years in both American Sherry & European Sherry casks. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grain, wood, fruit, herbs & spices; while a malty life adds notes of ginger, dried cherries, vanilla, caramel; that led to a balanced death of medium length with notes of oak spice, orange marmalade, brittle toffee, honey & warm cinnamon-raisin pastry. Going purely off of hte tasting notes, I definitely get the chocolate, and even some of the sweeter dried fruit notes. The oak is more of a dry mouth feel for me than something that was aggressively oaked, but its nice nonetheless. Despite this not being my usual whellhouse, I'm actually kind of feeling this one.
