I’m not sure which year this was since I had a dram at a local bar I’ve been going to for years but it was unbelievable. The ABV doesn’t even hit you hard. It’s so refined. Chocolate cola is immediate followed by some sweet caramel and muddled grains. The rye notes you expect only hit you in the initial way down from the palate. The finish was tremendously long. Unbelievable. A top 5 whisky for me so far. 100/100. It’s hard to knock it. I even kept the glass by my side for a half hour and the notes changed across that course of time in so many ways. I was lucky enough to grab a shot for $36. What a bargain but I’d willingly pay a LOT more a shot for this. And the price of the bottle is easily worth it. 100/100
About this bottle
This rye is named for the genius 19th century New Orleans bartender who first used rye in the classic Sazerac cocktail, (previously made with Cognac.) This uncut and unfiltered straight rye is the fraternal twin of the George T. Stagg bourbon, both released at full cask-strength. This edition was distilled in the spring of 2009 and aged on the 4th and 7th floors of Warehouses I, K and M at Buffalo Trace.

Handy is one of my Favs. I have the opportunity to try this classic vintage... And I'm so happy that I did. I usually don't read other reviews before typing my own. Here, I did review the pro-review posted. It's spot on. Chocolate and spice.. Mexican Hot Chocolate. There is the slightest medicinal note in the Aroma that keeps this from scoring higher. I'm 99% sure I've scored other vintages higher.. Actually needs some drops of water to show you its best. Finish is amazing and lasting. (favorite part)
Wow wow wow! This is great. It has classic aged high proof and high quality rye. I would love to side by side this with Kentucky Owl Batch 1. I think that would be a close race. The finish is long. The palate is sweet. Amazing!
Your eyes gaze at the viscosity indicating ‘your in for a treat’...Your nose picks up both sweet and spicy notes...Your mouth explodes with joy! This is a very well balanced delight if you can get a hold of a dram.
Cherries jubilee, vanilla, tobacco, rye. Long finish, very smooth. Excellent price on the pour too!
Vanilla and sweetness on the nose, strong eye bite, shorter finish but an excellent whisky.
