Overall Rating: 92/100 Nose (23/25) The nose opens with a delightful, inviting sweetness. Notes of lemon sherbet and vanilla cream immediately come forward, complemented by hints of freshly cut green apples and pears. There's a delicate floral character in the background, with a touch of honeysuckle and just a whisper of coconut. A subtle, light maltiness rounds out the aroma, providing a sense of balance and setting up an enjoyable tasting experience. Palate (23/25) On the palate, Tomatin Legacy is light-bodied and pleasantly smooth, with a creamy texture. The initial flavors mirror the nose, presenting a harmonious blend of vanilla custard, citrus zest, and orchard fruits. The influence of bourbon casks is evident, bringing forward sweet notes of honey and a touch of toasted coconut. Underlying spices, such as white pepper and a hint of nutmeg, add complexity without overwhelming the sweeter elements. The balance between the fruity, sweet, and spicy notes creates a nuanced, approachable dram that remains engaging sip after sip. Finish (22/25) The finish is clean and relatively short, but it leaves a lasting impression of sweetness and subtle spice. A gentle hint of mint and a trace of oak linger, adding to the refreshing and light nature of this whisky. The soft fade encourages another sip, making it an easy choice for both beginners and seasoned whisky drinkers who appreciate a well-crafted, easy-drinking Scotch. Balance (24/25) Tomatin Legacy showcases excellent balance and harmony in its flavor profile. The interplay of sweet vanilla, citrus fruit, and light spices is well-executed, with none of the elements overpowering the others. The whisky's light character and approachability are enhanced by its smooth texture and integrated flavors, making it a great example of how younger whiskies can still deliver depth and enjoyment. Conclusion Tomatin Legacy is an impressive offering for its price range, providing a superbly balanced, flavorful experience that exceeds expectations for a non-age statement whisky. It stands out as a quality, everyday dram that's approachable for newcomers while still offering enough complexity to satisfy more experienced whisky enthusiasts. The bright, fresh character makes it a great choice for warm weather sipping or as an introduction to Highland single malts.
About this bottle
Tomatin released this whisky to honor the "legacy" between the distillery and its nearby community. Prior to 1897, when the distillery opened, Tomatin was just a small and isolated village of scattered farms. The distillery helped fund new construction to house its workforce, which helped develop the nearby community. This whisky celebrates the relationship between both the Tomatin distillery and the village of Tomatin. In the US, this is sold as Tomatin Dualchas.

It starts on the nose with notes of vanilla accompanied by fruit. If you pay attention you can notice a touch of pineapple. Just before entering the mouth, this turns into a slightly buttery caramel mixture, but that sensation does not linger long on first mouthfeel. It kicks in with the vanilla and leaves a malty taste that turns spicy and bitter. A bit overly alcoholic as it settles. The fruity touch and a bit of white pepper are found again in the throat. There is a certain creaminess in the whole drink that reminds me of other good "breakfast whiskeys". It is a very balanced drink, with many nuances but well connected, pleasant and satisfying, with many opportunities to surprise. For its price, it is one of the great recommendations to have at home and a great gift for all types of whiskey lovers.
This whisky is a young and approachable single malt whisky designed to be an introduction to the Tomatin range. It aims to showcase the distillery's smooth and fruity character while remaining budget-friendly. On the nose, Tomatin Legacy offers a light and refreshing aroma with notes of citrus fruits, green apples, and a touch of vanilla. It presents a pleasant and inviting scent, perfect for those new to single malts. The palate is gentle and easy-going, with flavors of orchard fruits, pears, and a hint of honey sweetness. It maintains a smooth and light mouthfeel, making it suitable for casual sipping or as a base for whisky cocktails. While Tomatin Legacy lacks the depth and complexity of its older and more premium counterparts, it serves its purpose as an accessible and affordable entry point into the world of Tomatin whiskies. The finish is relatively short, with a mild warmth and lingering fruitiness. While it may not leave a lasting impression, it is clean and smooth, making it an agreeable option for casual drinking. In conclusion, Tomatin Legacy is a decent choice for those looking to explore Highland single malts without breaking the bank. While it might not appeal to seasoned whisky connoisseurs seeking a more intricate flavor profile, it fulfills its role as an easy-drinking and introductory expression from the Tomatin distillery.
I read that this was highly recommended in Forbes and was fortunate enough to be given this as a gift by my always generous friend @BradMacario. Looking forward to trying it! Nose: Rich in tropical fruits. Pineapple is at the forefront. I also get some mango and peach cobbler here. I'm not getting much for spice or other flavours here but the rich fruit is quite pleasant and reminds me of an Irish whiskey. Palate: This is really fruit forward initially with more of that peach cobbler flavour. The peach persists into a more Quaker peach oatmeal with some brown sugar sprinkled on top. There's a hint of cinnamon and caramel on the tail end. Finish: Medium to long. There's a grainy chewiness that hangs around and lingers for some time. Some subtle black pepper persists giving a slight bitter ending. Overall this is a good whisky. It's a bit thin on flavour but very rich and enjoyable. However, for the price point this is absolutely spectacular. I can't think of any other single malt at this price point that could compete. Some blended scotches I would like to compare this to in a similar price range would be Monkey Shoulder and Naked Grouse. Highly recommend!
In a local shop - not my usual go-to-shop - I purchased a small tasting pack consisting of 3x 5cl bottles of Tomatin: Tomatin Legacy, the 12 year old 'Bourbon & Sherry Casks', and a 14 year old 'Port Cask'. The last one I had already tasted and reviewed, so I'll only review the first two. To be honest, as regular readers of my reviews might have noticed - I usually favor peaty, smoky whisky's, so my expectations weren't very high - especially not for the NAS 'Legacy'. This is review 1/2 - The 'Tomatin Legacy'. This entry level Tomatin is not very impressive. The nose was rather flimsy, with an idea of citrus, and perhaps some pine. The taste added some vanilla, and some slight peppery notes. The aftertaste was nothing impressive either. All in all not a bàd whisky, but nothing special either. I would happily drink it when offered, but would never purchase a full bottle myself. 2.5 of 3 stars... I'll give 3...
(Vita Dulcis Advent Calendar 8/24) Nose: nice and somehow familiar, great mix of perfume, dry spices and thick ripe orchard fruits, really balanced, then it becomes creamy fudge vanilla pudding with very sweet raspberry sauce, great nose really, (is that a little peat in there?) Palate: light but refined and on point, again nicely balanced and quite spicy almost savory with a rock candy sweetness and sweet pumpkin Finish: interesting and quite enjoyable, gets even more exiting shortly after and remains quite long with nice spices and wood Verdict: I really liked that one and was really surprised (when I revealed the label of this again blindly tasted sample) that it is a Tomatin, what nice surprise really - I will have to check out this distillery further, because I have only had a few Tomatin yet that I was fond of
