The nose opens immediately with a strong umami and barley, with a subtle citrus peel and pear. These aromas, after some air, combine in such a way that reminds me of ripe banana, sometimes edging into an artificial banana candy. These continue into the palette, with the barley sweetness coming straight to the forefront, underlined by a slight savouriness and a hint of citrus peel. The finish brings a subtle note of green olives, almost reminiscent of a focaccia with olives. Very good for the low price point, yet certainly on the more savoury side of the shochus that I've tried. Perhaps start with Iichiko Silhouette if you're getting started with shochu, though I will concede to the experts in this regard!
