TX Bourbon APPEARANCE: The Mahogany Colored liquid is presented in a modern-ish bottle. I love that the Stopper is topped with repurposed boot leather. Nice touch. NOSE: Surprisingly good, if you give it time to breath. It starts off in typical Wheater Fashion, Dry & Dusty with Vanilla, and Fresh Straw/Hay. After a few minutes, the Corn takes the lead along with New Leather, Raisins, Peach, Strawberry, and Sweet Iced Tea. Occasionally you get a huge blast of Cinnamon. NEAT: On the first sip the initial impression is Sweet Fruits, but that doesn't last long as the Mid-Palate is all Dry Corn Funk (awesome name for an Iowa based R&B cover band). Luckily, on subsequent sips, that Musty Dry Corn is either lessened or the palate becomes used to it. You now have notes of New Leather, Vanilla, Oak, and Tingly Black Pepper. Clingy Mouthfeel. Not a lot of heat on the finish. Sweet Musty Corn and Oak Spice Aftertaste coat the palate. Weirdly tasty. SPLASH: The Nose and Palate both gain some Spice. The Musty Funk is reduced a bit. The Malt now dominates the back end and finish leaving a Sweet, Leathery aftertaste. VERDICT: I was torn at first on this one. As a traditional Bourbon it should score lower than average. Then I thought, "But, did you enjoy it?", and the answer to that was a resounding yes. Just a reminder that not all Bourbon has to taste like traditional KSB. I will forewarn you that YMMV as I can definitely see that corn note being polarizing. At an uncraftlike $42, it could be worth a flyer if you're looking for something a little out of the box.

I'm a Texan, and so I want to try, eventually, everything from Texas I can get my hands on. This was my first chance at this bourbon, so I took it. A fifth cost me $54.99 at the Mountain Run location of Kelly Liquors. All I could find about the mash bill is that it's a wheated bourbon - the mash bill is corn, wheat, and barley. The color in the glass is old copper. NOSE: Something that's musty or dusty or both starts things off. Then come vanilla, grass hay, a hint of honey, melted butter, and a touch of spice - cinnamon, and then other things in the background of the spice. MOUTHFEEL: Thick and buttery - this is the best part of the whisky. TASTE: Honey, butter, and a very faint grass note. FINISH: Medium long, with nothing but oak. SUMMARY: I found this very disappointing. It's a moderately good bourbon, but not more. The most is fairly complex, but it's simple on the palate. At $20 I'd buy it again, but not at the actual price. RATING: I give it the fourth level of my hick scale, which is merely Okay. That translates to, 2.5 stars 50/100 5/10
I bought this bottle on a very quick trip to Dallas, Texas. I had tried another offering from TX at a local bar and wanted to bring back my own Southern souvenir. On my way home, I grabbed a bottle of TX Straight Bourbon Whiskey. I really like the bottle itself. It's adorned with beautiful boot leather, ornate engravings and a weighted bottom. Onto the whiskey, the nose provides brown sugar and corn. While sipping, notes of leather, oak, baking spice, peppercorn and a slight mustiness create an interesting flavour profile. To me, despite a lovely auburn colour, this bourbon lacks body and has a fairly quick finish. While it's light and easy to drink, I wish it was more substantial. 7.25/10.
Not a fan. It’s musty. I’m trying to think of a better description, but I taste a weird mustiness with dust from the corn and spice with vanilla. It’s interesting but not sure I’d drink it again. On the nose, there’s vanilla with dark fruit which I enjoyed. The palate was not as enjoyable. I would love to know how much this pecan yeast affects the taste. If someone were to ask me what’s a good example of a Texas Whiskey, I wouldn’t give them this. I’d reach for a Balcones, Ironroot, or Garrison instead
I know this isn’t a Weller bottle, EH Taylor, or any other Buffalo Trace bottle, but this a nice clean very vanilla forward bourbon. If you’re looking for a bottle you want to pick up for party to share with friends that aren’t bourbon snobs, you might want to consider trying this rather than the same old overly sweetened Canadian Whiskey that everyone thinks is good for some reason.
I really enjoy this whiskey. Lots of vanilla and butterscotch on the nose, subsequent sniffs also bring out a fruity sweetness like apples or maybe raisins. The palate takes a surprising turn with some nice black pepper notes that compliment the vanilla along with some not unpleasant heat. The finish is quick and leaves your mouth somewhat dry. A fun ride that is always enjoyable.
