About this bottle

The Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery has recently drafted distilling to its lineup. The first release is this small batch Canadian whisky blended by Master Distiller, Joshua Beach. Aged rye, malted rye and corn whiskies were individually mashed, fermented and distilled, then brought in house to be finished in the wineries red wine casks. Availability limited to Canada and, as of February 2018, the Chicago, Illinois area and Missouri.

I smell leather and some thinner with some sweetness. Taste not really complexe. Taste like butterscotch/caramel and creamy a little bit of spice and can taste the grapes in the background. Also have a solvent taste that weird. The finish fade quickly except for the butterscotch. If you enjoy really sweet whisky this is for you, but it a little too much for me. For the price not bad but not impressed. Probably won't buy it again, but wouldn't turn down if someone offer me a pour. 99 was the GOAT of hockey, but is whisky is subpar.

Nothing about this drink is bad... but there's nothing compelling about it either. The wine notes are not heavy enough to warrant the red cask tag on it's label. The tasting notes of leather and brown sugar are clear. I'm glad I tried it but I wish I would have tried it at a bar first before purchasing a bottle. I would never turn it away but i don't anticipate purchasing a second bottle. The rating of 90 is probably a few points too high. Good not great.

An unassuming rye. It’s definitely not a top goal scorer, the boozy nose leads me to believe that this whiskey could hardly tie up it’s own skates. On second nosing, I get burnt cotton candy, and vanilla. In the mouth, The sweetness quickly fades and is replaced with and a mild chilli heat that hits moderately and slowly fades. What it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in wearing the number 99. Overpriced.

Not very enjoyable! Tastes of a young patched together whiskey for the sake of selling bottles. I do not drink this neat anymore. Use it for mixed cocktails only and still hesitant when mixing a drink. Did not enjoy any of the bottling from Wayne Gretzky, including the wines and ice wines. Unfortunately they do not live up to the great ones hockey performance! Sad, very sad.

It has a great aroma but the moment the whiskey slithers down your throat you feel cheated. There's no lingering taste and no finish. I could not tell you the notes I felt because I felt them for half a second then all is gone. For its price point there's so many better whiskeys out there.

This whisky has some very rum-like qualities and flavours. Nose: Brown sugar and vanilla. Palate: Butterscotch turning into salted caramel mid-palate with a touch of maple syrup. Finish is a bit hot, short to medium length with a lingering taste of brown sugar.
