Nose: Straight fruit. Golden raisins, plums, grapes Taste: Rye spice followed by grape fruit. The Port wine finish gives this an extra hint of fruit it needs. Doesn’t taste like any other Rye you’ll ever have. Fantastic.
WhistlePig Old World Series Port Finish Rye 12 Year
About this bottle
The Port barrel-finished whiskey from WhistlePig is the second release in its Old World series, a trio of wine-cask-finished 12-year-old ryes developed by Dave Pickerell, the well-known craft spirits consultant and former Maker’s Mark distiller. Port, a cave-aged fortified wine from Portugal, has an intense sweetness thanks to the use of neutral grape spirit to halt fermentation. That sugariness penetrates the barrel and allows for a powerful jolt of heavy fruit notes to the rye, which is made in Indiana from 95% rye and 5% malted barley.

By far my favorite whistlepig. Nice and smooth from the start with a good spice note. You can taste a mild sweetness and flavor of the port finish. My favorite bottle in my collection.
Got peat and Isopropyl on the nose. Taste reminded me more of an Ardbeg 10 year whiskey. Unfortunately I'm not (yet?) a scotch fan so...
Smooth as hell with no burn. Best Whistlepig on the market.
Not sure if this is old world I had, but it was tasty
Apparently it’s a $120 bottle. I don’t like ryes
