⌚️: Let sit for about 5 minutes. 👀: Light flecks of hay mixed in with mature wheat, sunset tonight, walls sticking to the sides of the glencairn; 👃: Malty scents typical of Japanese whiskey or scotch, pineapple, a little cherry, sherry influences; 👅: Tartness at the outset gives way to tender velvety soft fruit notes, more cherries and stone fruit, very simplistic taste with not much complexity; 🏁: Short linger is a pleasant one, soft notes stick with you though, reminds me of a harsh Hibiki 🤨, nothing special but hey it’s Akashi!
About this bottle
Granted in 1919, the White Oak Distillery on the Akashi Strait was one of the first in Japan to be licensed for making whisky. The owner, Eigashima Shuzo, also produces shochu, umeshu, and wine so the window for whisky production is limited to just one or two months out of the year. White Oak Akashi Shin is a blended whisky, aged for around 3 years in a combination of the distillery's ex-shochu casks, along with ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. It is bottled at 40% ABV.

Delicate on the nose, brine and sandalwood, feels safe. Pallette is light, fresh oak (as it says on the label), pepper and ginger, all light. Feels somewhat cold in the mouth, alcohol almost flat? Verdict: Good for hot days as an oldfashioned, or on the rocks novices. nothing special.
It’s very herbal and spicy on the nose. Black pepper, clove and oak are present. The palate is very similar, with an initial burst of pepper and a medium long oaky finish. There’s a small amount of sweetness, and hints of vanilla. The texture is surprisingly rich and oily.
I wasn’t impressed at all. Flat taste, unmemorable finish. Anything that helps a bit is a drop of water. This makes it drinkable. Otherwise is just a whiskey that I would rather forget. I think I won’t be buying it any time soon.
Quick taste Au nez : sec, floral, herbal, caramel brûlé, noisette Au palais : un peu boisé, leger caramel et rien d’autre à part un léger métal Note personnelle : 72/100 Pas terrible, une sorte de johnny red un peu plus fade
Really light whisky. Not much of a smell. Starts with a little woodiness and light sweetness at the end.
