Genuinely awful. A "white whisky" whose gimmick is that it isn't new make; it's *actually* aged whisky. . . . It's just then coal-filtered to remove any colour. Surprise, surprise, though: removing colour also removes any flavour, and what's left resembles a bad vodka. Clear colour. Smells of citrus soda (maybe it's the colour influencing my perception), grain, and just a hint of butterscotch-caramel. Your typical Canadian profile, only worse, because it's also got some serious paint-thinner character as well. Strangely sharp while also being super bland. And that contradiction continues on the taste, which is somehow both watery and sharp. Raw grain. Fire. Synthetic butterscotch/caramel. Vanilla ice cream. If I could give zero stars, I would. White Owl is genuinely putrid; it takes all the weaknesses of Canadian whisky as a genre to begin with, and it makes them even worse; hell, it doesn't even mix well.
White Owl Whisky
About this bottle
White Owl Whisky is unlike other white whiskies in that it's been aged for a minimum of three years. Three years is the minimum amount of time a grain spirit must be aged in Canada in order to be labeled whisky. It begins with a grain whisky aged in charred oak barrels, that is then blended with older aged wheat whiskies. To achieve clarity, the color is actually charcoal-filtered out.

To me, it tastes like an extremely filtered young rye whiskey- which is what it is in its essence. And, I believe, the makers don’t hide that. I agree with others who liken this to a vodka but with hints of sweet scotch whiskey. I believe it shines best as a base for mixed drinks. To me, it is uncomplicated and I enjoy this filtered whisky very much in a light tasting highball.
Honestly the worst whisky I've had, very disappointed after having it recommended to me. Opened the bottle and poured into a glass upon first smell I thought it was rubbing alcohol. First spit was very bland/cheap alcohol flavour. I know it's cheap whisky but I expected something drinkable, not something I want to pour down a sink.
White Owl gets a lot of hate, but I personally don't think it's deserved. This is a very dry and spicy rye, with a vodka note that's stronger on the nose than on the palate. It's certainly worth a try if you like rye spice, or just want to try something unique.
Remarkably bad. I don't know what marketing koolaid I was drinking when I acquired this. Only useful for cocktails, but there are even better whiskies for that task!
Has a mellow taste with good consistency. I wouldn't consider this a great sipping whiskey more of one you'd use in mixed drinks.
