After trying a sample of the fantastic 2022 Russell’s Reserve 13-year , I wanted to try more dusty Turkey and thankfully I have a sample of their Father and Son 13-year from @Richard-ModernDrinking to explore. The nose is soft and gentle starting with a mix of dusty old leather-bound books, toasted marshmallow and orange zest then dark chocolate covered almonds along with a mild smoke from freshly lit pipe tobacco followed by sautéed apples and mildly sour cherries that transitions to spearmint, cloves and polished mahogany with low ethanol burn. The taste is a thin to medium mouthfeel starting with creamy citrus that then fades to a mix of dusty old leather-bound books, freshly lit pipe tobacco and a mild spice followed by sautéed apples and mildly sour cherries that transitions to spearmint, ginger, cloves and polished mahogany with low ethanol burn. The finish is medium length, starting with mildly sweet and sour citrus along with mild chocolate and coffee notes that then fade to light spices of cloves, ginger and spearmint along with pipe tobacco, dusty leather-bound books and polished mahogany. This is so close to the 2022 Russell’s Reserve 13-year profile with those wonderfully old dusty oak notes front and center that is perfectly balance a traditional bourbon profile along with mild rye spices that is a much gentler, lighter and softer version likely due to the 43% ABV whereas the 2022 Russell’s Reserve 13-year at 57.4% ABV was a bold, dense and rich decadent treat. I prefer the bolder Russell’s 13-year over this, but could see how this would be better suited towards those that aren’t as accustomed to cask strength bourbons and is a very easy sipper.

Nose: ⠀ Soft Vanilla, Cream cheese, Wet sweet oak, Old barn/leather ⠀ ⠀ .⠀ ⠀ Palate: ⠀ Dusty oak, Leather, Sweet soft vanilla and Cream cheese frosting, Tea spice and Saw dust. Slightly thin but enjoyable. Citrus fruits appear as you hold it longer, maybe some pineapple, orange peel and….dragon fruit??⠀ ⠀ .⠀ ⠀ Finish: ⠀ Medium and slightly dry. Lasting notes of that dusty corn and oak dust. Rye like spice with green tea and bitter sweet vanilla. . Conclusion/Score: 85/100 This was super enjoyable and a nice background sipper. Not overly complex but enough to where I did enjoy taking my time and discovering what it had to offer. The one thing I feel it’s missing though is mouthfeel and proof; if this was only maybe about 10 Proof points higher I thing it would be an absolute stunner. Either way I’m glad I got it and $70 for a liter of old school tasting goodness is a no brained. Cheers!

Nose is old leather book and hints of orange bitter . Smoke notes throughout. Taste includes the orange bitter and dark chocolate . There is a slight petrol note that is stopping this from being more special . Nice pour and this is my 4th or so pour from the bottle and i think it improves each tasting . Liittle pricy for the tasting experience, but glad to be able to share the bottle with dad on Fathers day .

Super strong fruit notes on this, cherry, raspberry, and plum. Pleasent sweetness as well, growing on me with every sip. Little thin bodied on the palate, but long sticky finish.

Low proofs just arent my jam. A little smokey taste but so light. Its complex and alot comes at you but its still 86 proof and not worth price.
