This bottling from the House of Suntory is one of four in its 2022 Tsukuriwake Selection, a limited edition collection of single malts from Yamazaki Distillery which highlights the foundational pillars of the whisky brand. Tsukuriwake means "artisanship through a diversity of making," and this bottling features the single malts that were aged in oak from Northern Spain. The brand claims that this parcel for Yamazaki is its "depth enhancer." This was first launched in Japan in 2020 and is available in select global markets as of June 2022 including the US.

Nose: Dank barrel, cherry, raisins, dark fruit, age! Palette: all the dark fruit: raisins, figs, fruitcake. Toffee, preserves. 0 Peat. Hints of bran & wort just peaking though. Hints of wheat reaches and warm ripe fruit peaking through. All the Musty, dank, water logged barrel you can handle. Oak, mahogany, walnut. Vanilla, fudge, crème brûlée sugar. Cinnamon, ginger, pepper spice. Butter & honey underneath.
Exactly what you’d expect from this bottle (met the high expectations). Classic yamazaki 18 finished in spanish oak cask. Very well balanced with a nice long spicy finish. Nothing unexpected but very nicely composed. Id buy at msrp at most.
