History

A green minty drink for dairy lovers.

Harry Craddock's 1930 publication, The Savoy Cocktail Book, lists the Alexander's Sister, a gin and crème de menthe cocktail, in proximity to two other Alexander variations. Directly preceding it are Alexander Cocktail No. 1, which uses gin, crème de cacao, and sweet cream, and Alexander Cocktail No. 2, featuring crème de cacao, brandy, and fresh cream. The recipe provided for Alexander's Sister is: ALEXANDER's SISTER COCKTAIL. ⅓ Gin. ⅓ Fresh Cream. ⅓ Crème de Menthe. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. Below the recipe, a notable caution is included: "Ladies are advised to avoid this Cocktail as often as possible."
