History
A 50/50 mix of dry and bianco vermouths adds honeyed richness to the all-dry vermouth vintage recipe. The subtle richness added by splitting the vermouth helps achieve a perfectly balanced cocktail.
This cocktail is adapted from a recipe in Stanley M. Jones' 1977 book, Jones' Complete Barguide. ALLEGHENY Cocktail Glass Stir 1 oz Bourbon 1 oz dry vermouth ¼ oz Blackberry flavoured brandy ¼ oz lemon juice 1 dash bitters Lemon juice The name Allegheny originates from the Lenape people, an indigenous group from present-day northeastern Delaware, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania, USA. The Lenape word "Allegheny" translates to "best flowing river of the hills" or "beautiful stream." It is possible the name stems from an ancient mythical tribe called the Allegewi, who reportedly inhabited the Allegheny River area before the Lenape. Allegheny holds the distinction of being the first county in Pennsylvania to be named after a Native American term.
