2 oz Cognac (brandy)
1/2 oz Dry vermouth
1/2 oz White crème de menthe
1/2 oz Orange juice
1/2 oz Grenadine syrup
1/6 oz Claret wine

Serve in a coupe glass

- 1 Select a COUPE GLASS.
- 2 Prepare garnish of mint leaf or red rose petal

- 3 SHAKE first 5 ingredients with CRUSHED ICE.
- 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.
- 5 FLOAT red wine.

- 6 Garnish with mint leaf or rose petal floated on surface.

This is a fresh and refreshing drink. Subtle peppermint adds zing to the cognac base.
David A. Embury's 1948 book, The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks, includes a version of this cocktail. AMERICAN BEAUTY 1 part French Vermouth 1 part Grenadine 1 part White Creme de Menthe 1 part Orange Juice 4 parts Cognac This is to be shaken with crushed ice, and then topped with 1 teaspoonful of claret. If served in a tall glass filled with crushed ice, the drink is sometimes referred to as American Beauty Punch.
