History
Smashing a sugar cube and stirring into a paste is time-consuming. Sugar syrup is an alternative, adjustable from 5ml to 10ml for personal taste. Syrup allows consistency, creating a delicious, subtly cider-influenced Rye Old-Fashioned.
This recipe is adapted from a creation by Richard Boccato and Michael McIlroy in 2006 at Milk & Honey in New York City. By 2007, it was a staple at the sibling bar Little Branch, and American Trilogy remains a popular cocktail at Attaboy, the establishment now occupying the former Milk & Honey site. Originally prepared in the glass with a sugar cube, it was made with three American ingredients, leading to its name: rye whisky, applejack, and Regan's Orange Bitters.
