History

Loaded with alcohol and aqua blue, this citrusy 1980s drink is a classic.

The Blue Lagoon cocktail gets its name and distinct blue color from Blue Aqua Velva aftershave. According to popular legend, sailors in World War II purportedly drank the aftershave for its alcohol content. This cocktail was likely created in the 1980s as a tribute to the scent. In the 2007 film Zodiac, a mystery-thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Robert Graysmith, the character is shown drinking this cocktail. Graysmith, a political cartoonist, receives and deciphers encrypted letters from the serial killer known as the "Zodiac."
