History
Gin and Scotch whisky are lightly sweetened, softened and aromatised with vermouth.
Engine Gin's creators found the Automobile Cocktail in Frank Meier's 1934 book, The Artistry of Mixing Drinks. They prepare Meier's version with an Ibiza liquor, akin to absinthe, stating, "An Automobile Cocktail, a glass of gasoline with a nut in it." This quote comes from a whimsical promotional postcard for the Automobile Cocktail, a drink closely related to the Rob Roy. There are multiple variations of this cocktail. The version featured here is the one documented at the Ritz in Paris. Compared to the recipe reported by Meier, adjustments were made to rebalance the drink, incorporating a distinctive Ibiza liquor that was also used to infuse a component. This transformation has turned the "car" into a convertible spider, ready for a scenic drive along the coasts of Isla Bianca.
