History
Trader Vic described his creation as "the world's finest, greatest, oh-so good peachy hangover special. This'll do when nothing else will." This assessment may perhaps be overselling the malty banana meal of a drink.
Victor J. Bergeron, known as "Trader Vic," included this recipe in his 1948 Bartender's Guide. It calls for a "BANANA COW," prepared with "1 crushed ripe banana," "3 oz. whole milk," "2 level tsp. bar sugar," and "1½ oz. Puerto Rican rum." The instructions are to "Shake with crushed ice or mix in electric mixer; strain into large glass." Bergeron also noted, "This drink is good for children, omitting the rum. Be sure the banana is ripe."
