Flavour profile

History

Essentially a Cuba Libre, this uses tequila instead of rum, with a crucial pinch of salt.

This cocktail was created in 1961 by Don Javier Delgado Corona, the owner and bartender of La Capilla (The Chapel) in Tequila, Mexico. Don Javier famously stirred this drink with the knife he used for cutting limes, a practice he continued into his eighties. The Batanga is a popular drink in Mexico, partly due to an advertising campaign by El Tequileño, a tequila brand produced near Don Javier's bar.
