History
A sloe berry-influenced, fruit-forward Perfect Martini.
The Blackthorn cocktail dates back to the 1890s, with a variation known as the Blackthorn No. 1 appearing in William "Cocktail Bill" Boothby's 1908 book, World's Drinks And How To Mix Them. This specific rendition is adapted from one of five Blackthorn recipes found in Stanley M. Jones' 1977 Jones' Complete Barguide. The "BLACKTHORN" is prepared in a cocktail glass with a stir method and is listed as a "Variation" with the following ingredients: "1 oz gin, 1 oz sloe gin, 1/4 oz dry vermouth, 1/4 oz sweet vermouth, 1 dash orange bitters, 1 dash Angostura bitters", garnished with a "Lemon twist, cherry".
