History
Dilution is key to this fruity sweet 'n' sour cocktail; depending on ice, the Charlie Chaplin may benefit from a splash of water before shaking.
Named in honor of Sir Charles Spencer 'Charlie' Chaplin (1889-1977), the celebrated English slapstick comic actor of the silent film era, this eponymous cocktail was conceived at New York's Waldorf-Astoria prior to 1920, during the peak of Chaplin's career. The recipe is adapted from Albert Stevens Crockett's 1935 publication, The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book. The CHARLIE CHAPLIN cocktail consists of equal parts: One-third Lime Juice, One-third Sloe Gin, and One-third Apricot Brandy.
