History
A sweet blackcurrant and berry fruit drink for the undiscerning.
This cocktail is named for its flavor, which resembles Vimto, a brand of fruit-juice-based soft drink. The Cheeky Vimto cocktail appeared in Britain in the early Noughties, but gained widespread attention in June 2005. This occurred when the Daily Mail newspaper reported it as the favorite drink of Welsh singer-songwriter Charlotte Church. At the time, she was a prominent teen diva known for partying, leading the paper to use the headline, "Wild Charlotte's binge-drinking shame." The soft drink Vimto, despite the cocktail's name, is not an ingredient. For clarification, Vimto is a sweet, purple soft drink made with grape, raspberry, and blackcurrant juices, flavored with herbs and spices. John Noel Nichols, a wholesaler of spices and medicines, created Vimto cordial in 1908 in Timperley, Cheshire, England.
