History

Gin and herbal vermouth with bright orange flavor. An earlier version of this recipe used 30ml (1oz) gin, 15ml (½oz) orange curaçao, 30ml (1oz) rosso (sweet) vermouth, 45ml (1½oz) orange juice, and 1 dash orange bitters. In January 2023, in an effort to create a recipe closer to The Savoy's original, the recipe was amended to the current proportions.

This cocktail originated during American Prohibition and gained significant modern recognition through its inclusion in Harry Craddock's influential 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book. The Damn-The-Weather Cocktail is made with ½ Dry Gin, ¼ Italian Vermouth, ¼ Orange Juice, and 3 Dashes Curaçao. It is shaken well and strained into a cocktail glass.
