Ingredients

1 1/3 oz Gin
1/3 oz Calvados apple brandy
1/3 oz Blue curaçao liqueur
2/3 oz Dry vermouth
2/3 oz Lemon juice
1/3 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)

How to make

Serve in a coupe glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.

Method

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 5 EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

This blue, fruity gin cocktail is dried by vermouth and soured by lemon.

The 1937 Café Royal Cocktail Book, compiled by William James "Billy" Tarling for the Coronation Edition, attributes the creation of this cocktail to J. B. O'Brien. Following the proportions detailed in Tarling's book, the recipe provided would result in only 5ml (1/6oz) of sugar syrup. DARLINGTON. Invented by J. B.
