History

Delicately peaty Scotch whisky with rich honey balancing tart grapefruit. A larger measure of bourbon is suitable, especially with milder honey.

This recipe originates from Judge Jr.'s 1927 book, Here's How!. In the book, the name is spelled "De Riguer" without a 'u'. The description reads: "Hark, ye lads! Here's the very latest drink! Three of these will knock you for a row of aspirins." The proportions listed were ½ scotch, ¼ grapefruit juice, and ¼ honey, served with cracked ice. The same recipe, with ½ Whisky instead of scotch, is found in Harry Craddock's 1930 book, The Savoy Cocktail Book.
