History

A riff on the Last Word, substituting Irish whiskey for gin.

This cocktail is named after Frank Fogarty, a vaudeville performer known as The Dublin Minstrel. Ted Saucier's 1951 book, Bottoms Up!, mentions Fogarty introducing the Last Word to the Detroit Athletic Club around 1920, suggesting he may be the drink's namesake. The Detroit Athletic Club provided the following recipe and context: "The cocktail was introduced around here about thirty years ago Frank Fogarty, who was very well known in vaudeville. He was called the 'Dublin Minstrel,' and was a very fine monologue artist." LAST WORD ¼ dry gin ¼ maraschino ¼ chartreuse ¼ lime juice Ice Serve in cocktail glass.
