History
A Dry Martini variation with Dutch character, provided by genever and orange curaçao. Genever is the traditional juniper-flavoured spirit from the Netherlands and Belgium, often regarded as the precursor to modern gin. Curaçao is an island country in the southern Caribbean, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the source of the oranges for the liqueur.
This cocktail draws inspiration from the Martini Cocktail featured in Harry Johnson's 1882 publication, New and Improved Bartender's Manual. The manual suggests "a dash of curaçao or absinthe, if required."
