  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of lime zest twist and lime wedge.

  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

History

A genever-based variation on the classic Last Word.

The Last Word is a prohibition-era cocktail with a disputed origin. It is believed to have originated in the 1920s, though the exact year is unknown. One popular theory attributes its creation to Frank Fogarty, a comedian, at the Detroit Athletic Club in 1916. However, this claim is unsubstantiated. The first known written record of the cocktail appears in 1916, in the second edition of 'The American and Other Drinks' by Albert Stevens Crockett. He included the recipe, stating that it was a favorite of the famous actor Henry E. Dixey. It was a popular drink throughout the 1920s, but its popularity waned significantly after prohibition.
