History

Certain to warm and fairly good.

This cocktail originates from Harry Craddock's 1930 publication, The Savoy Cocktail Book. The original recipe, listed as FAIR AND WARMER COCKTAIL, is as follows: 1/3 Italian Vermouth. 2/3 Bacardi Rum. 2 Dashes Curaçao. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. The designation "No. 2" was appended to the name when the recipe appeared in William Boothby's 1934 work, The World's Drinks And How To Mix Them. In that book, it is presented after a different "Fair & Warmer" recipe. Boothby's "FAIR & WARMER" recipe is: Sloe Gin ....... 1/3 jigger Sherry .......... 1/3 jigger Dubonnet ..... 1/3 jigger Benedictine ... 1 dash Shake well with ice, strain into chilled cocktail glass and serve. And his "FAIR & WARMER, No. 2" recipe is: Bacardi ............ 2/3 jigger It. Vermouth ... 1/3 jigger Curacoa ........... 2 dashes Shake well with ice, strain into chilled cocktail glass and serve.
