History
The distinction between a standard Dirty Martini and a Filthy Dirty Martini lies not in increased olive brine, but in the addition of lime juice. This introduces a citrus freshness, complementing the lemon zest twist, and a sour element. Opting for bianco vermouth instead of dry, and/or old tom gin in place of London dry, can help balance the lime's sourness and the olive brine's savory umami. These substitutions also enhance the botanical notes, enabling them to stand up to the 'dirty' components. Unusually for a cocktail containing citrus juice, stirring is recommended. If a shaken preparation is preferred, the vermouth, olive brine, and lime juice must be significantly reduced, as shaking amplifies their flavors while diminishing the gin's presence.
A variation on the Martini.
