History
A cocktail from the early 20th century, made without egg white and served straight-up. This contemporary rendition, with egg white (or alternative) and over ice, is rather better.
The Fireman's Sour makes its initial recorded appearance in the 1917 publication, *Recipes for Mixed Drinks* (second edition), authored by Hugo Ensslin. "APPLEJACK SOUR 1drink Applejack Juice of ½ Lime Juice of ½ Lemon 1 dash Grenadine 1 teaspoon Powdered Sugar Shake well in a mixing glass with cracked ice, strain into a Fifth Avenue glass, decorate with fruit and serve. Fill up with carbonated water if desired." "FIREMAN'S SOUR ½ pony Grenadine ½ teaspoon Powdered Sugar 1 drink Bacardi Rum Juice of 1 Lime Made and served same as Applejack Sour"
