Flavour profile

History

Bone dry but fresh and decidedly citrusy.

The Flame of Love was created at Chasen's, a famous Hollywood restaurant that began service in 1936. It was a popular spot for celebrities and even royalty until it closed in 1995. Some of its decorations were stored, and in 1997, Maud and Dave Chasen's grandson established a new Chasen's on Cañon Drive in Beverly Hills. This venture did not succeed, however, owing to insufficient customers. During Chasen's most successful period, its celebrity patrons were served drinks conceived by its well-regarded bartender, Pepe Ruiz. Among these, the Flame of Love stands out as his most celebrated invention, in part because it was initially prepared for Dean Martin. The lore surrounding this cocktail is further enhanced by an anecdote of Dean Martin bringing his friend Frank Sinatra to Chasen's specifically to sample the drink. The tale continues that Frank Sinatra was so taken with it that he purchased one for every person present. Martini cocktail history
