History
Martini drinkers of the gin/vodka and vermouth variety may find this drink too flat and too white. However, for lovers of flat white coffees and cream liqueurs, this Martini variation hits the spot.
Developed in Australia and New Zealand in the 1980s, the "flat white" is a coffee drink made with velvety, steamed milk poured over a double espresso shot. While similar to a cappuccino or latte, it is smaller and has a higher coffee-to-milk ratio. As Dick Bradsell's Espresso Martini gained widespread popularity in the first half of the Noughties, marketers at Baileys Irish Cream began to promote this cocktail.
