History

Fans of the Sidecar will enjoy the Frank Sullivan. It's pleasantly tart with a hint of quinine bitterness, perfect for sipping through a sugar-crusted rim.

This recipe is adapted from the Frank Sullivan Cocktail found in Harry Craddock's 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book. The same publication includes two other cocktails with the identical recipe: the "Hoop La! Cocktail" and the "Odd McIntyre Cocktail." This recipe, which appears to have multiple identities, is also present in the 1933 book Hollywood Cocktails. A year later, it appeared in William T. Boothby's World Drinks And How To Mix Them, but under the name "Hey Hey." The original recipe is as follows: "FRANK SULLIVAN COCKTAIL. ¼ Glass Lemon Juice. ¼ Glass Kina Lillet. ¼ Glass Cointreau. ¼ Glass Brandy. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass." The "Hoop La! Cocktail" is listed as: "HOOP LA! COCKTAIL ¼ Lemon Juice. ¼ Kina Lillet. ¼ Cointreau. ¼ Brandy. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass." The "Odd McIntyre" is presented as: "ODD McINTYRE ¼ Glass Lemon Juice. ¼ Glass Kina Lillet. ¼ Glass Cointreau. ¼ Glass Brandy. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass."
