History
Jones' original 1977 recipe, which comprises 2oz/60ml bourbon, 1oz/30ml lemon juice, and 2 spoons of sugar, topped with champagne, is built directly in the glass, resulting in a very strong drink. It is hoped that Jones would approve of the modification of his recipe to include shaking for mixing. While still robust, the additional dilution from shaking makes the drink somewhat more balanced.
This recipe is adapted from Stanley M. Jones' 1977 book, Jones Complete Barguide. Further historical details and variations concerning the French 75 can be found on our page.
