History
Grenadine adds a pink-red hue, but absinthe ensures this Martini remains dry. This drink may chase away the blues.
David A. Embury's 1948 book, The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks, offers a basis for this cocktail. The Gloom Chaser, or Gloom Raiser, is a Dry Martini that includes 2 dashes of absinthe and 2 dashes of grenadine per drink, stirred. It can be compared to The International. A variation of the Gloom Chaser replaces the sugar in a Daiquiri with curaçao. No recipe for "the International" is provided by Embury in his book.
