Ingredients

1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
1/2 oz Cognac (brandy)
1/4 oz Grenadine syrup
1/4 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)
2/3 oz Lemon juice
1/2 oz Egg white (pasteurised)

How to make

Serve in a coupe glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of lemon wedge.

Method

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice and strain back into shaker.
  2. 4 DRY SHAKE (without ice).
  3. 5 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 6 Garnish with lemon wedge on rim.

This recipe is adapted from David A. Embury's 1948 book The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. The recipe is: GLOOM LIFTER 1 part Sugar Syrup 2 parts Lemon Juice 6 parts Irish Whisky 1 Egg White to each 2 drinks Shake with cracked ice Embury adds under the recipe, "Compare the Gloom Chaser and Gloom Raiser."
