Ingredients

1 1/2 oz Rye whiskey 50% abv
1 1/2 oz Rosso/sweet vermouth
1 dash Aromatic bitters

How to make

Serve in a coupe glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of orange zest twist and Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

Method

  1. 3 STIR all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 5 Express orange zest twist over cocktail and discard. Garnish with maraschino cherry.

History

With gratitude to Bob Cook, a Discerning Drinker, for sharing the recipe for this potent whiskey cocktail, an equal-parts Manhattan variation, on October 27, 2020, via a comment on our Sweet Manhattan page. Originally named High Rye Manhattan, a less imaginative title, the name "High Ryeser" was suggested by another, anonymous Discerning Drinker in the comments section, who felt it was a more fitting moniker. This cocktail is indeed a product of true collaboration.
