History
Spirit-forward and complex, with fruit, spice, and bitterness. An agreeable late-night drink.
This drink is based on a recipe from Crosby Gaige's Cocktail Guide and Ladies' Companion, published in 1941. The original preparation is served "up." Home on the Range was a favorite of Sasha Petraske, who presented it over a large ice block in a rocks glass. His version used bourbon instead of rye, sweet vermouth in place of Dubonnet, and included 60ml bourbon, 7.5ml triple sec, 7.5ml sweet vermouth, and 3 dashes of Angostura bitters. Home on the Range ½ part Rye Whiskey ½ part Dubonnet 3 dashes Cointreau Dash of Angostura Bitters 1 piece Lemon peel 1 piece Orange peel Shake with cracked ice and strain into cocktail glass.
