History
Extremely dry, this works well as an aperitivo, with quinine, fino sherry, gin botanicals, and citrus all in harmony.
The Jabberwock cocktail derives its name from Lewis Carroll's poem, "Jabberwocky." The version offered here is adapted from Harry Craddock's 1930 book, The Savoy Cocktail Book. Craddock's original recipe included Caperitif, a product no longer available. Craddock's recipe itself features a note: "This will made you gyre and gimble in the wabe until brillig all right, all right." This clearly indicates Craddock's appreciation for Lewis Carroll. The original recipe from The Savoy Cocktail Book reads: JABBERWOK Cocktail. * 2 Dashes Orange Bitters. 1/3 Dry Gin. 1/3 Dry Sherry. 1/3 Caperitif. Stir well and strain into cocktail glass. Squeeze lemon peel on top. * This will make you gyre and gimble in the wabe until brillig all right, all right.
