3/4 oz Triple sec
3/4 oz Rosso/sweet vermouth
1/2 oz Lime juice

Serve in a coupe glass

Prepare

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of skewered Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

Method

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

  1. 5 Garnish with skewered cherry.

History

A riff on an Oriental, mellowed by using Irish whiskey instead of rye.

Gary "gaz" Regan, cocktail guru and author, created this recipe in 2001. It appears in his 2003 book, The Joy of Mixology. JAMES JOYCE COCKTAIL FAMILY: NEW ORLEANS SOURS This drink was created in 2001 during bartender-training seminars. It is a straightforward variation of the Oriental Cocktail from the 1930s Savoy Cocktail Book. The Oriental Cocktail used rye whiskey and white curaçao, making the creation of this drink a simple adaptation. 1½ ounces Irish whiskey ¾ ounce sweet vermouth ¾ ounce triple sec ½ ounce fresh lime juice SHAKE AND STRAIN into chilled cocktail glass. This cocktail is served annually as a toast for Bloomsday on June 16th.
