History

A Daiquiri-like, bourbon-based cocktail heavily influenced by allspice dram liqueur.

William James "Billy" Tarling's Café Royal Cocktail Book, a London publication from 1937, features this drink's earliest known recipe. It is probable, however, that an American bartender, displaced by Prohibition, originated the cocktail. "Twisting the lion's tail" served as an American idiom during the era of anti-British sentiment between the World Wars, meaning to provoke the British. LION'S TAIL Invented by L. A.
