Flavour profile

History

Trader Vic described this gin-based Julep as: "This is a hell of a drink."

This recipe is adapted from Victor Bergeron's 1972 book, Trader Vic's Bartender's Guide, Revised. Bergeron suggests, "Try this. This is s hell of a drink." The MAJOR BAILEY recipe calls for ¼ ounce lime juice, ¼ ounce lemon juice, ½ teaspoon bar sugar, 12 mint leaves, and 2 ounces gin. The preparation involves muddling the lime juice, lemon juice, sugar, and mint leaves thoroughly. This mixture is then poured into a 12-ounce chimney glass filled with shaved ice, followed by the gin. Stir gently until the glass is frosted, chill for 30 minutes, and garnish with a mint sprig, serving with straws.
