History
The cocktail that led to the Negroni and Americano. Pause and enjoy its simplicity.
Gaspare Campari created this cocktail in the 1860s at his Caffè Campari, on Milan's Piazza del Duomo. It was named after the origins of its two ingredients: Campari from Milan and rosso vermouth, traditionally from Turin. It is said that soda water was added later to the Milano-Torino to create the Americano. The Negroni, with gin added, also morphed from the Milano-Torino.
