History
While the classic Negroni is generally accepted as having equal parts, with some enthusiasts preferring a bit more gin, the proportions for this amaro-dolce variation differ significantly. Some recipes call for equal parts, others for twice as much amaro as the remaining ingredients, and some suggest one-and-a-half parts gin to one part each of the others. After evaluating all available options, this 7:6:5 ratio has been selected, offering a prominent amaro profile with distinct gin notes, while maintaining a balanced sweetness and alcohol content. However, an alternative recipe from Montenegro is also available: 40ml (1⅓oz) Amaro Montenegro 20ml (⅔oz) Gin 20ml (⅔oz) Rosso (sweet) Vermouth 2 drops Aromatic bitters
Rudi Carraro, global brand ambassador for Amaro Montenegro, has developed his own version of the MonteNegroni, which consists of: 40ml Amaro Montenegro, 25ml Brooklyn Gin, and 20ml Select Aperitivo.
