History
Roy has a personality beyond its stature, and takes dilution well. An optional splash of chilled water is suggested.
This cocktail is adapted from a recipe found in Harry Craddock's 1930 publication, The Savoy Cocktail Book. The original recipe specified Hercules, a product that is no longer available. Advertisements from that era described Hercules as a "Maté-Wine Apéritif" with an "alcohol strength over 25°." Given its unavailability, another wine-based aperitif has been substituted. PERSONALITY A LA ROY COCKTAIL. 1 Dash Angostura Bitters. ¼ Hercules. ¼ Applejack or Calvados. ½ Dry Gin. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass.
